17 May 2023 News

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Kostadin Kodzhabashev today held talks with the Albanian Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Megi Fino at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Bulgaria and Albania will celebrate 110 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations and 30 years since the signing of the bilateral Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

The interlocutors discussed the potential for deepening relations between the two countries in areas such as regional cooperation, European integration of the Western Balkans, economy, connectivity and infrastructure, transport, education, culture, etc.

‘Albania is an important partner and friend of Bulgaria. It is in our common interest to make more efforts to strengthen bilateral dialogue and establish closer relations of good neighbourliness and friendship. The continuation of the dialogue at the highest level is also essential as an incentive for other sectoral projects,’ Deputy Minister Kodzhabashev emphasized.

The efforts Albania has consistently made to protect the rights of minorities, since the adoption of the Protection of National Minorities Act in 2017, were also the focus of the discussion. Deputy Minister Kodzhabashev said that the Bulgarian national minority in Albania is an important factor in strengthening the mutual trust that exists between both countries and represents a kind of ‘bridge of friendship’.
