10 April 2023 News

Ambassador Mariana Boyadzhieva presented her credentials to the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune and officially took office as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria at a ceremony at the El Mouradia Presidential Residence on 6 April 2023.

This was followed by a brief meeting with the Head of State, attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf and the newly appointed Chief of Staff of the President Abdelaziz Hellef, which took place in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

During the talks, bilateral relations, which in 2022 mark 60 years since their establishment, were discussed in general terms. President Tebboune described them as extremely close and friendly.

Demonstrating genuine and warm relations towards our country, he pointed out that there is significant potential for development in a number of important areas — agriculture, military-industrial complex, as Bulgaria has modern high technologies and industries. The Algerian Head of State explicitly stressed that efforts should be made to intensify tourist exchanges and expressed the desire of many Algerian citizens to visit our country.

He expects his Bulgarian counterpart Mr Rumen Radev to visit Algeria in the near future.

At the end of the meeting Ambassador Boyadjieva thanked for the warm welcome and the attitude towards Bulgaria and confirmed our country's readiness to work for the upward development of bilateral relations. She noted that there are significant untapped opportunities and prospects for this.
