"Saudi Arabia is one of Bulgaria's most important partners in the Middle East region. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to discuss various steps to strenghten political dialogue, as well as the prospects for further developing mutually beneficial cooperation in areas of strategic importance, such as energy, economy, tourism and security."
This was stated by the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodora Genchovska before the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 26, 2022.
"It is in our mutual interest to expand the spheres of economic cooperation between the two countries, where there is definitely untapped potential, as well as to increase trade," said Minister Genchovska.
The Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that a promising area for strenghtening bilateral contacts is energy. "Bulgaria has the capacity to provide services and specialists in the field of decommissioning and management of radioactive waste. "Our country has good traditions and programs for training energy specialists," she said.
There is a potential for cooperation between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia in the defense sector, especially military-technical cooperation aimed at high technology, military education and joint exercises, added Minister Genchovska.
The possibility of developing relations in the field of tourism was also discussed. "Bulgaria is a popular tourist destination that offers excellent opportunities for holidays all year round with its resorts, spa tourism and cultural and historical destinations," said Teodora Genchovska.
We must use the existing potential between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia to strenghten cooperation. "Vision 2030 provides many opportunities for investment and implementation of joint projects, including in the field of information technology", said Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
During the plenary talks, the topic of overcoming the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the efforts of our country to achieve diversification in the supply of natural gas and oil was also touched upon.
The Republic of Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have established diplomatic relations since March 1995. The visit of Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud is the third visit of a Saudi Foreign Minister to Bulgaria.
