Meeting with the Governor of the Argentine province of Chaco, Jorge Capitanich

On the eve of the upcoming two bright holidays - May 24 in Bulgaria and May 25 in Argentina - National Day of the country, on May 23, 2022 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held a meeting of Acting Director of the Directorate General for Bilateral Relations and Director of the American Directorate Petar Kraychev with Jorge Capitanic, Governor of the Argentine province of Chaco. Governor Kapitanic is the highest-ranking Argentine official to visit Bulgaria in recent years. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Argentina to Bulgaria Alfredo Atanasoff.
Argentina was the first country in Latin America with which Bulgaria established diplomatic relations in 1931. Chaco Province, whose third-term governor is Jorge Kapitanic, is home to the most compact Bulgarian community in Argentina and all of South America. This is the only Argentine province that over the years has had a governor and vice-governor of Bulgarian origin. Currently, cultural societies of the descendants of the Bulgarians who settled in Argentina are active in Chaco. In the second largest city in the province - Presidency Roque Science Penya, a bust of Hristo Botev was built, which is located on Bulgaria Square. In another large city in the province - Las Brenjas, a bust of the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski is erected.
During the conversation between the Bulgarian and Argentine representatives, a number of issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, specifically the strengthening of ties between Bulgaria and the province of Chaco. The interlocutors praised the results achieved so far and identified some promising areas in which to strenghten cooperation. Among them stood out areas such as trade and investment, technology and academic exchange, culture, education and more.
