Deputy Minister Velislava Petrova met with OECD Deputy Secretary General Jeffrey Schlagenhauf. He is in Bulgaria in connection with the completion of the "Comprehensive reform of administrative penal activity" project, funded by the European Commission. The project is part of efforts to strengthen the legal framework for fighting corruption.

The main highlights of the conversation were the next steps regarding Bulgaria's future membership in the OECD after the decision of the OECD Council of 25 January 2022 to open accession talks with the Organization, as well as deepening cooperation with the OECD in the field of public integrity and the exchange of good practices in the fight against corruption.

Deputy Minister Petrova stressed that Bulgaria considers the process of joining the OECD as an opportunity and additional incentive to implement reforms and improve the socio-economic environment in the country in the interests of Bulgarian citizens and businesses.

Velislava Petrova also emphasized the contribution that Bulgaria can make to the establishment of OECD values ​​and principles in the region of Southeast Europe.
