Bulgaria and Austria discussed current topics on the European agenda

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodora Genchovska met in Sofia the Federal Minister for the European Union and the Constitution of the Republic of Austria Caroline Edstadler. During the dicsussions, topics related to the European perspective of the Western Balkans, tensions over Ukraine and our country's foreign policy priority for joining the Schengen area were discussed.

Minister Genchovska stated Bulgaria's readiness to work for EU enlargement while meeting the necessary criteria. Regarding the Republic of Northern Macedonia, our first diplomat acquainted the Austrian Federal Minister with the work done by the Bulgarian government in the last month to intensify the dialogue with the Republic of Northern Macedonia. Caroline Edstadler learned more details about setting up bilateral sectoral working groups. At the same time, Minister Genchovska stressed that our country expects concrete and consistent results not only on bilateral issues, but also on the need to resolve open political issues between the Republic of Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria.

In the framework of the intensive dialogue held today, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister drew attention to the situation around Ukraine, which is a cause for concern. Both sides stressed the need to reduce tensions through diplomatic means.
