An exhibition at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tells about 90 years of friendship between Bulgaria and Argentina

16 July 2021 News

Deputy Foreign Minister Zaritza Dinkova and Argentine Ambassador Alfredo Nestor Atanasoff opened today an exhibition at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which tells the history of 90 years of friendship between Bulgaria and Argentina.

The event is part of a series of initiatives by Bulgaria and Argentina to mark 90 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

"The Argentine Republic is the first country in Latin America with which Bulgaria establishes diplomatic relations. We give priority to the political, economic and cultural ties between our two countries, "said Deputy Minister Dinkova in her speech at the opening of the exhibition.

Bulgarian-Argentinean relations have not only a rich history, but also great potential, no less thanks to the historical Bulgarian community in Argentina. "Our country is recognizable in Argentina thanks to the large Bulgarian community, which is a living link between our two countries and is a natural bridge for strengthening the friendship between our two peoples," said Zaritsa Dinkova. She expressed conviction that the further development of the traditionally friendly relations between Bulgaria and Argentina is a goal shared by both countries.

The exposition is a kind of story that traces historical processes and related events from the arrival of thousands of Bulgarians in Argentina in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. One can see the diplomatic documents founding the relationship, as well as photos of people from each of the two countries and their activities. A special place is given to the national heroes of the two countries - the liberator General Jose de San Martin and the freedom fighter Vasil Levski. The topic of Antarctica, revealing the strong friendly ties between Bulgaria and Argentina, also has its place in the panel.

The exhibition, which will remain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until the end of August, has been put together by the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the America Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Sofia.
