Bulgaria to host sixth meeting of International Working Group on Sanctions against Syria

01 December 2012 News

In February 2013, Bulgaria will host the sixth meeting of the International Working Group on Sanctions against Syria. This was decided at the fifth meeting of the International Working Group, held in Tokyo on November 30 2012.

The hosting of the meeting by Bulgaria is part of our consistent efforts, within the framework of the international community, aimed at seeking a way out of the tragedy in Syria that has been continuing for more than a year.

The Working Group was set up in the framework of the “Friends of the Syrian People” group at its second meeting in Istanbul, on April 1 2012. Meetings so far have been held in Paris, Washington DC, Doha, The Hague and Tokyo.

The goal of the meetings in this format is improved co-ordination of international efforts to put pressure on the Syrian regime, by imposing targeted sanctions on those responsible for the violence, and by restricting the regime’s opportunities to continue the repression.
