22 February 2021 News

The stories of significant women from Bulgaria and Slovakia are presented through photographs in the "Significant Women in History - from Bratislava to Ruse” exhibition, opened today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"It is a great honour to attend this event, because the Danube civilization is one of the oldest in the world. As part of a civilization, the Bulgarian and Slovak languages are so close, they allow us to contact each other without the need for translation", said Deputy Foreign Minister Milen Lyutskanov, who opened the exhibition. It was organized by the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Sofia and the Regional History Museum in Ruse.

The photographs tell of the achievements of women from the Bulgarian and Slovak communities, thus building a bridge between the cultures of the two countries and sending a common message of respect, equality, dialogue and memory.

Among the nationally significant women, in the exhibition are presented Baba Tonka, Ekaterina Karavelova, Dimitrana Ivanova, as well as actresses, poets, athletes, more or less known to the audience. On the Slovak side, the photographs tell of famous Slovaks who were the first to realize themselves in various areas of public life. Women's successes are highlighted, important issues related to gender equality and the role of women in Slovak history are covered.
