The Consulate of the Philippines in Bulgaria becomes an honorary consulate general

The Council of Ministers approved a change of class of the Consulate of the Republic of the Philippines in Bulgaria. With the decision, the diplomatic mission became a general honorary consulate, and its seat and consular district were retained. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of the Philippines in Bulgaria, Ognyan Georgiev Trayanov, became Consul General.
The Republic of the Philippines has no diplomatic mission in Bulgaria and accredits its ambassador to Budapest for Bulgaria. Our country also has no diplomatic mission in the Philippines and accredits the ambassador in Hanoi, Vietnam. This circumstance attaches even greater importance to the institution of honorary consuls for maintaining and expanding bilateral dialogue and exchange.
The change of the consulate class will contribute to the further expansion of the cooperation between Bulgaria and the Philippines in the field of trade and economic relations, investments, education, culture and tourism.
