The final group of stranded seasonal workers travelled from Sweden to Bulgaria

07 August 2012 News

Late on the evening of August 6, the last 12 buses carrying 41 Bulgarian seasonal workers who got into difficulties in Sweden, left from Stockholm and are expected to arrive on Wednesday evening at Sofia Central Bus Station.

Following the immediate intervention of the Bulgarian Government and through the active co-ordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Bulgaria in Stockholm along with Swedish authorities repatriated 560 stranded Bulgarian citizens who wanted to return home.

The Bulgarians were transported from Stockholm to their places in vehicles of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Albena Holidays tour company, the Swedish authorities and Ministry of Fransport. The return of the seasonal workers from Sweden to Bulgaria has been completed successfully. This was a one-off event and other Bulgarian seasonal workers in Sweden should be aware that from now on they will be able to return to Bulgaria only at their own expense.

Regarding the crisis that arose, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends that Bulgarian citizens who want to go on a seasonal work abroad should have signed contracts, full information about the employer and check in advance that proper arrangements have been made.
