14 August 2018 News

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ukraine, Mikola Baltazhi, prior to his final departure from Bulgaria.

‘The friendship between our two peoples is so strong that good political relations are bound to continue to develop,’ Minister Zaharieva said. ‘There is a very important bridge linking Ukraine and Bulgaria: the Bulgarian community in the country.’ The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the key importance of ensuring that the Bulgarian community in Ukraine have the conditions necessary to study their mother tongue, and Ambassador Baltazhi assured her that the effort made to achieve this would continue.

‘I could see your fervour and passion when it comes to your country and its bilateral relations with Bulgaria,’ Minister Zaharieva pointed out. ‘In the future, Bulgaria will have another ambassador to Ukraine in you.’

Ambassador Baltazhi thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for Bulgaria’s unwavering and staunch support for the territorial integrity of the Ukraine and its European prospects. ‘We have found support, and I will remember this friendship for many years to come,’ he stated. ‘I leave my historic homeland to return to my homeland, cherishing the warmest of feelings. For that, I am grateful to diplomats, politicians as well as regular citizens.’

Minister Zaharieva presented Ambassador Baltazhi with a gift, a replica of the golden mask of King Teres, and he gave her a clock decorated in the traditional Petrikov style, which – in his words – ‘[w]ill show the European prospects of the Ukraine.’
