We Welcome the Invitation for Skopje to Join NATO

We welcome the resolution at the NATO summit allowing for the commencement of NATO accession talks with the Republic of Macedonia, which is a crucial step towards its belonging to the Euro-Atlantic community. We support the determination of the Macedonian government to continue to implement reforms, and to step up its good neighbourly relations. For our part, we will continue to lend the support necessary in the spirit of the Amity, Good-neighbourliness and Cooperation Agreement signed in 2017. We consider the progress made as a success of our active policy aimed at ensuring a European and a Euro-Atlantic future for the entire region, which is a priority that we were successful in achieving within the framework of Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, which ended two days ago.
The invitation addressed to the Republic of Macedonia clearly demonstrates that the open door policy of the Alliance remains in place, and that it contributes to the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic Area.
