Bulgaria to open a consulate in Frankfurt am Main

03 April 2012 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to open a consulate in Frankfurt am Main. The decision will enable Bulgaria to have a more dynamic economic presence in the European financial capital while continuing to provide the necessary consular services to all Bulgarian citizens residing temporarily or permanently in the provinces of North Rhine Westphalia, Rhineland Palatinate, Saarland, Hesse, Bremen and the western part of Lower Saxony.

The consulate will be opened after the necessary procedures, in co-ordination with the German side, are completed.

As a result of the strategic review of the diplomatic service that was completed last year, Bulgaria’s Government decided to restructure and optimise the network of diplomatic and consular representation.

The reform is aimed at bringing the number, composition and geographical location of foreign missions in line with current priorities and the economic interests of Bulgaria abroad.

For this reason, the Bulgarian Government has decided to suspend, from June 30 2012, the operation of the diplomatic bureau in Bonn and to open a consular office in Frankfurt am Main.
