A cocktail reception and a concert of the folk singer Nikolina Chakardakova, the Nevrokop Dance Ensemble and the young singer Nicole marked the National Day of Bulgaria at the National Theater in Podgorica, on the 6th of March this year. The event was attended by diplomats, representatives of the EU delegation to Montenegro, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the press and the non-governmental sector, and Bulgarian expats in that country. In his speech Ambassador Mladen Chervenyakov noted the significance of the Treaty of San Stefano for the history of both Bulgaria and Montenegro. He underscored that membership of the EU has no viable alternative, and therefore a key priority for the Bulgarian Presidency is the connectivity and the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
Young girls in traditional Bulgarian costumes handed out martenitzas to the guests as a symbol of the traditional Bulgarian spring festival Baba Marta (Granny March).
