09 February 2018 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically condemns the terrorist attack carried out on February 9 against peaceful civilians in the Libyan city of Benghazi.

Yet another barbaric act has been committed at a place holy to Muslim worshippers during their Friday prayer, as a glaring proof of the need to find the right approach for countering terrorism and eradicating the extremist ideology that inspires it.

Such acts of violence once again reconfirm the urgent need to achieve genuine progress in the political process of national reconciliation and the building of legitimate and functioning institutions in that country under the auspices of the UN.

As we express our empathy with the suffering of the loved ones of the scores of victims and wounded, we voice our support for the efforts of the special UN envoy, Ghassan Salamé, for achieving lasting stability in that country.
