Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the EU celebrated at the Palace of Mafra in Lisbon

The start of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU was celebrated with a concert of classical music and an exhibition showcasing the history of Bulgaria at the National Palace of Mafra, former residence of the Portuguese Kings. In his speech, Ambassador Vasilii Takev underscored the great significance of the Presidency as a direct expression of the highly responsible attitude of this country to the present and future of United Europe. Ambassador Takev drew a parallel between Bulgaria and Portugal in their substantial contribution to the establishment of statehood in Europe, the cultural and spiritual shaping up of the European civilization.
The concert program featured works by Bulgarian and Portuguese composers: Marin Goleminov, Georgi Zlatev-Cherkin, Petar Hristoskov, João de Sousa Carvalho and Luís de Freitas Branco, performed by the Bulgarian and Portuguese musicians of the Cascais & Oeiras Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Nikolay Lalov.
