‘It wasn’t by accident that I chose Sofia for my first foreign trip after I took office. Poland will consistently support the Bulgarian Presidency in the pursuit of its goals.’ Those were the words of Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz at his working luncheon with the ambassadors of the EU member states accredited to Warsaw on January 29th, 2018. The host of the meeting, Bulgarian Ambassador Emil Yalnazov, presented the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Later that day, the Grand Ballroom of the Royal Palace was the venue for a festive concert marking the start of the Bulgarian Presidency. The concert opened with the anthems of Bulgaria, Poland and the European Union, performed by the College of Europe Natolin Choir, whereas the main program featured works by European composers, including the Bulgarian violinist Petar Hristoskov, performed by Prof. Mario Hossen (violin) and Lilyana Kehayova (cello). Their virtuosity was rewarded by the audiences with frenetic applause and the musicians played an encore, accompanied on the stage by the President of the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Prof. Klaudiusz Baran.
In the foyer to the Grand Ballroom, the guests had the opportunity to view an exhibition of wood carvings and icons by students at the National High School of Applied Arts in the town of Tryavna.
