29 January 2018 NewsIn the days when we commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, unidentified persons desecrated the monument to the Jews who perished in the concentration camp near Kaylaka in Pleven, torched in July 1944. This is a gross provocation against Bulgarian society and our values.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria categorically condemns the desecration of historical monuments and the manifestations of hatred. This act of vandalism actually defiles the efforts of generations of our compatriots, thanks to whom Bulgaria is cited as a role model of tolerance between people of different religious, racial or cultural backgrounds.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Coordinator on Combating Anti-Semitism Georg Georgiev has received assurances that the local authorities will take immediate action for the cleaning of the monument and for the prevention of such acts of vandalism in future.
