05 December 2017 News

Within his working visit to Canada, Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev met with the consuls general of the EU Member States in Toronto.

He acquainted the diplomats with the priorities of the forthcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council. “The country will seek balance and understanding on the most important European topics on the Union’s strategic agenda,” Georgiev said. He stressed that while holding the rotating EU Presidency Bulgaria will work for strengthening competitiveness and stability through cohesion and creation of conditions for unity and solidarity. "Our focus will be on security and migration, growth and new jobs, the European prospects of the Western Balkans, the Eastern Partnership, and the Black Sea Region. We will pay special attention to the cohesion policy, which over the years has proven its true European worth," Georg Georgiev said.

The Deputy Minister and the consuls general agreed that the challenges facing the European project require an even deeper cooperation and interaction between the Member States.
