06 November 2017 News

On 2 November, Deputy Foreign Minister Yurii Shterk took part in the political debate within the 39th Session of the General Conference of UNSECO in Paris. In his statement he dwelled on the leading role of the organisation in the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with the means of education, culture and science. He underscored that Bulgaria is an active partner in the attainment of the common goal – building of a world of tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful co-existence.

“Bulgaria supports and will support the efforts of UNESCO in the fight against radicalisation and aggressive extremism through the development of an equal and inclusive education, through the promotion of cultural diversity, through the prevention of social and economic exclusion of the young people,” the Deputy Minister said and urged the international community to unite its efforts for the establishment of secure and sustainable societies.

On behalf of the Bulgarian delegation, Yurii Shterk voiced satisfaction with the process of reforms in UNSECO and the proposed programme and budget for the 2018-2021 period which are in harmony with the fulfillment of the SDG adopted by the UN organisation.

Within his visit to Paris, Deputy Minister Shterk conferred with Nicolas de Rivière, Director General for Political Affairs and Security within the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with whom he discussed questions related to the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council, bilateral relations and the perspectives before the Eastern Partnership.
