Open letter to Netherlands society and its political leaders against a website set up by Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party

15 February 2012 News

The heads of 10 missions in Central and Eastern Europe, including the Charge d’Affaires of the Bulgarian Embassy in The Hague, yesterday voiced their protest against the website set up by the Freedom Party of Geert Wilders.

The open letter was handed to the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Social Affairs and Employment and parliamentary leaders of political parties in the country.

It was published in the Dutch daily Handelsblatt. (http://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2012/02/14/oost-europese-ambassadeurs-in-open-brief-pvv-meldpunt-is-discriminatoir-en-denigrerend/).

In the letter, the EU diplomats urge Netherlands society and its political leaders to distance themselves from the initiative of one particular political party and by so doing, reinforce the image of the Netherlands as an example of freedom and tolerance.
