Bulgaria is seeking to recruit future diplomats

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces a general competition for the appointment of 15 civil servants at intern-attache positions. The applicants can submit their applications documents by 24 October.

The purpose is to recruit more young people in the Bulgarian diplomatic service with the prospects of withstanding the country’s interest abroad or building up our foreign policy while based in Sofia.

“The Bulgarian diplomatic service needs younger staff. Apart from the competitions for inter-attaches we are considering a faster career growth for the young diplomats,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva said earlier on this occasion.

In order to be admitted to the competition, the applicants should meet the following minimum criteria:

  • to be Bulgarian nationals and not to have other nationality but one of a EU member state;
  • to hold a master degree in humanitarian sciences, social, economic and legal sciences, security and defence;
  • to have a command of at least two foreign languages, of which at least one should be an official language of the UN organization or a working language of the European Commission (English, French, German, Russian, Arab or Chinese);
  • to have computer proficiency;
  • not to suffer a chronic mental disease;
  • to fulfil the other requirement for civil servants in accordance with Art. 7, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Civil Servant Act.

The applicants fluent in languages like Albanian, Arab, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Romanian, Russian, a Scandinavian language. Turkish, Persian, Hindi, Dutch or Japanese will have an advantage in case of having equal results in the written and oral part of the examination with their components.

The written part consists of three stages. The first is to take a test of multiple-choice questions for checking the IQ as well as a psychological test. Then the applicants will have to write an analytical essay on a foreign political topic from within the questions of the compendium. The third part is an analytical essay in one of the languages with which the person applies. The volume of the text should be half a page.

The oral part includes writing on a question from the same compendium and answering questions asked by members of the examination commission.
