10 October 2017 News

Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev conferred the Golden Laurel Branch to Larry (Labro) Koroloff, a Canadian citizen and a long-standing member and functionary of the Macedonian Patriotic Organization (MPO). This highest award of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is handed to Larry Koroloff for his many-year activity and contribution to the preservation of the Bulgarian nature of the MPO, for strengthening of the national and cultural identity of the Bulgarian emigrants in Canada.

Larry Koroloff was born and grew up in Canada. He is a successor of the outstanding Koroloff family from the Drenoveny Village, Kastoria Region. He continued the work of his father, Lazo Koroloff, a guardian of the Bulgarian historical memory. He dedicated his whole life to the preservation of the Bulgarian traditions and the national and cultural identity. A historian by education, Larry Koroloff has carried out research and collection activities during the years concerning the way of life, folklore and customs of the Bulgarians from his father’s birthplace.

“It is an exceptional privilege for me to decorate Larry Koroloff with the highest Foreign Ministry award, the Golden Laurel Branch honorary badge, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister for Justice Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva,” Deputy Minister Georgiev said upon presenting the award. “Your life and your deed are an example of inspiration. I hope that many young Bulgarians, both here and beyond the Atlantic Ocean, will follow your deed. Thank you for passing over the Bulgarian national spirit to the future generations and thus making us feel worthy for being Bulgarians and living in these lands,” Georg Georgiev also said.

On his part, Larry Koroloff thanked for the recognition and voiced hope that he will visit Bulgaria ever more often in the future.
