We strongly condemn the murder of French journalist Gilles Jacquier in Syria

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the murder of French journalist Gilles Jacquier in Syria. We regard this brutal act as an intolerable attack on human life and freedom of speech.
We demand that the Syrian authorities, who bear full responsibility for the safety of foreign journalists, fully investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
We call on the regime in Damascus to end the use of force and to proceed to dialogue with a wide range of representatives of all of Syrian society. We hope that the tragic incident with Mr Jacquier does not lead to further limitations on access of foreign media to Syria.
We take this opportunity to express our solidarity with the families and colleagues of Gilles Jacquier at this difficult time.
