The exceptional Alexis Weissenberg is no longer with us

09 January 2012 News

“He left us as a virtuoso musician and a man of generous heart, who did not spare his strength as he taught new generations of pianists. His artistic talent shone on the world stage, but he never forgot Bulgaria,” Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov wrote in the Book of Condolences for the family of the great composer and pianist, Alexis Weissenberg.

Born in Sofia, Alexis Weissenberg was a student of Pancho Vladigerov. His exceptional performances of the works of Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt and Brahms, under the batons of great conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein and Riccardo Muti, brought him worldwide fame.
