07 December 2015 News

Bulgaria expresses its unequivocal support for Georgia’s EU and NATO membership and for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov said at the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Kvirikashvili in Sofia.

The meeting between the top diplomats of Bulgaria and Georgia took place in the framework of the official visit of the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Sofia and it was along the lines of the intensive and friendly dialogue between the two countries. During the talks, the two ministers discussed the excellent bilateral political, economic and military cooperation between Bulgaria and Georgia in light of the current complex political situation in the Middle East and the Black Sea region.

Daniel Mitov voiced Bulgaria's readiness to render methodological and logistical support to Georgia on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration.

Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili thanked for Bulgaria’s support for NATO’s Open Door policy, saying that his country expects Bulgaria’s support in the process of visa liberalisation with the EU in view of the fully implemented requirements. He expressed gratitude also for the participation of our country in the EUMM and in other initiatives in Georgia.

Minister Mitov and Minister Kvirikashvili discussed cooperation between Bulgaria and Georgia in the field of economy, transport, energy and infrastructure projects. They highlighted the importance of the two countries as transit routes of gas links between Europe and Asia, as well as the contribution of Black Sea transport corridors Poti-Burgas and Poti-Varna to the connectivity between the two continents.

In conclusion, the Ministers focused on the necessity to continue intensive bilateral dialogue, including within the framework of the visit of Daniel Mitov to Georgia and the conduct of bilateral political consultations.
