Strengthening the contacts between Europe and Asia is a guarantee of more stability, security and human development, said Daniel Mitov at the ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting

06 November 2015 News

"The growing connectivity between Europe and Asia is not only a guarantee of economic growth, but also of more stability, security and human development." This statement was made by Minister Daniel Mitov at the 12th Asia-Europe Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM) in Luxembourg.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister participates in the regular ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting together with his counterparts from the EU, Norway and Switzerland, as well as Russia, China, India, Australia and most of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. The Meeting is chaired by Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Asylum Jean Asselborn.

In his statement, Minister Mitov emphasized on the priority importance Bulgaria attaches to the EU energy and transport networks and the European Energy Union. "Europe's energy networks are open for connectivity with our Asian partners," said Minister Mitov, adding that in this way the economies of the ASEM countries will interact and will be able to actively develop connectivity initiatives.

"Gas and oil pipelines, roads and digital highways are only the "hardware" of cooperation," commented the Bulgarian Foreign Minister. "We need to focus more on the everyday "infrastructure interaction" between people and entrepreneurs," he said, adding that "this is "the software" which will revive cooperation."

The forum will be closed with a Joint Declaration by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
