Minister Daniel Mitov met with the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Sofia Shaul Kamisa Raz

The Republic of Bulgaria and the State of Israel maintain the highest level of dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation. In recent years the relations have acquired a strategic character, agreed Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov and Israeli Ambassador to Bulgaria Shaul Kamisa Raz, who was welcomed at the Foreign Ministry by the head of Bulgarian diplomacy in relation to his final departure from the country.

Minister Daniel Mitov underscored the particularly intense and fruitful political dialogue between the two countries, saying that Israel is one of our most important partners in the Middle East. The Foreign Minister thanked the Israeli state and the Jewish lobby in the world for supporting Bulgaria in various fields.

Minister Mitov and Ambassador Kamisa Raz praised the active bilateral cooperation in the field of security, defense, counter-terrorism, trade and economy, tourism and education. They discussed the fruitful political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries in May and the successful implementation of Bulgaria-Israel Strategic Dialogue in June 2015.

The Israeli diplomat underscored the active cooperation between the two countries in countering terrorism, which was enhanced further after the Sarafovo bombing in 2012.

The Bulgarian side expressed gratitude for the serious financial support of Israel during the recent severe floods and forest fires in our country.

Both sides expressed their views on the recent agreement on Iran's nuclear program and discussed the complex situation in the Middle East, the peace process developments, the situation in the Palestinian territories, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and the spreading activity of the so-called "Islamic state". The Bulgarian first diplomat and the Israeli Ambassador shared the firm stance against all forms of terrorism and shared the belief that the process of achieving peace in the Middle East is of paramount importance and must be supported in all possible ways.

The two diplomats discussed also the Bulgarian-Israeli cooperation in the light of the ongoing Presidency of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and Israel's desire to make meaningful contribution to the process.
