Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova to Attend the Regular Meeting of the General Affairs Council in Brussels

On 28 January 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Elena Shekerletova, will be in Brussels to participate in the regular meeting of the General Affairs Council, held within the framework of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU programme. The main topics for discussion will be the priorities of the Polish Presidency and the EC's annual rule of law report, with a particular focus on Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Kondov, will participate in the annual meeting of the Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which will be held on 5 and 6 December in Malta. Discussions of the OSCE ministers will focus primarily on Russia's war against Ukraine, its broader security implications for Europe and the future role of the OSCE in this context.

Ivan Kondov to Participate in the Annual Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Central European Initiative

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Kondov, will participate in the annual meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Central European Initiative (CEI), to be held in Tirana on 20-21 November. Discussion will focus on topics included in the draft Joint Statement, which is expected to be adopted as the main outcome document of the meeting. The Central European Initiative comprises 17 participating countries, including nine EU Member States, South-East European countries currently engaged in EU accession negotiations and Eastern Partnership countries. Bulgaria has been a full member of the CEI since 1 June 1996.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Kondov, will lead the Bulgarian delegation at the regular meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council, which will be held on 14 October 2024 in Luxembourg. During the meeting, Foreign Affairs Ministers will discuss the latest developments regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and a range of current issues, including the upcoming elections in Georgia and the Republic of Moldova, the situation in Venezuela and the Horn of Africa, and relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As part of the discussions on Ukraine, a video conference is scheduled with the new Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Mr Andriy Sybiha.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Kondov, will lead the Bulgarian delegation to participate in the 45th session of the Francophonie Ministerial Conference, to be held on 3 October 2024 in Paris. The meeting will bring together Foreign Ministers from the member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF). The Ministers of Foreign Affairs will review and adopt the draft "Declaration of the 19th Francophonie Summit" and will issue recommendations on applications for membership and changes of status within the IOF.

The meeting's agenda will address topics such as regional connectivity, economic integration in the Western Balkans region, and progress towards the Common Regional Market, youth engagement, and reconciliation initiatives.
