Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel will take part in the general debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78)

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel is on a working visit to New York, where she will take part in the general debate of the 78th UNGA session and side events.

On 18 September the Deputy Prime Minister will participate in the opening of the Sustainable Development Goals Summit.

She will address the ministerial meeting on ‘The role of artificial intelligence in accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals’.

The deputy prime minister will also participate in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states.

On 19 September Mariya Gabriel will participate in the opening of the General Debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Deputy Prime Minister's agenda foresees a number of bilateral meetings, including a bilateral meeting on behalf of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile Alberto van Klaveren.

Mariya Gabriel will also take part in the Ministerial Round Table on the need to amend the Rome Statute, as well as in a Quadrilateral Meeting at the level of foreign ministers between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Croatia. It is planned to discuss topics related to the Three Seas Initiative, regional and economic cooperation.

On 20 September Mariya Gabriel will participate in the UN Security Council (open debate) on ‘Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter through effective multilateralism: maintaining peace and security in Ukraine’.

The Deputy Prime Minister's programme also includes the signing of the Agreement to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity in Areas beyond National Jurisdiction.

On 21 September, the Deputy Prime Minister's programme foresees participation in the preparatory ministerial meeting for the Summit for the Future, as well as a meeting with the UN Secretary-General , together with President Rumen Radev.

Mariya Gabriel will also participate in an event of the global initiative ‘Generation Unlimited’ on ‘The Twin Transitions: Preparing the Next Generation for a Green & Digital Future’, of which he is a Board member. The initiative is the UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The Deputy Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with Ms Catherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF and Ms Seema Bacchus, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women.

The Deputy Prime Minister's programme also includes a Transatlantic Dinner of Foreign Ministers.

On 22 September the Deputy Prime Minister will take part in a Ministerial Meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission. Mariya Gabriel will also join the discussion on the vision for securing the future through inclusive economic growth, energy security and public-private cooperation.
