Incident involving Bulgarian citizens off the coast of Angola

Two Bulgarian citizens working on an oil rig of the SAIPEM – ENI company fell overboard from the rig on the night of July 1 off the coast of Angola.

Search operations began immediately, resulting in one of the Bulgarians being rescued and admitted in stable condition to a hospital in Luanda. The second is still being sought by rescue boats and a helicopter. The operation involved elements of the Angolan coast guard and a team of the company that owns the platform.

The Bulgarian Embassy in Pretoria is in constant contact with the SAIPEM - ENI company and the authorities in Angola and is monitoring developments in the case.

The relatives of the Bulgarians have been informed and are in contact with representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the company that owns the platform.
