Advisory to Bulgarians Traveling to the Maldives

17 March 2020

The Maldives’ Health Protection Agency (HPA) reports the adoption of temporary restrictive measures on a second island, Bathala, after an Italian national displayed symptoms of COVID-19. Restrictions have been imposed temporarily on a third, still unnamed island after two French nationals displayed symptoms. The travel restrictions were lifted after the patients tested negative for the virus. The authorities of the Maldives banned access to the country of people arriving from Italy or for those who have transited through Italy.
In view of the threat of spread of the epidemic to the Maldives and the possibility that more islands may be placed under quarantine and considering the lack of operating diplomatic missions in the country, Bulgarian nationals are advised to:
- avoid any travel to the Maldives that is not urgently needed;
- Bulgarians traveling to the country or already there are advised to follow of the official Maldives institutions every day and to observe their recommendations;
- observe the general recommendations of the World Health Organization.
