Regional cooperation in Southeastern Europe is exceedingly important for Bulgaria. It as a key instrument for building security and political and economic stability in the region, Minister Daniel Mitov said at today’s meeting with Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretary General Goran Svilanović, who is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of the Foreign Minister. For his part, Svilanović thanked Bulgaria for its support and active contribution to the work of the RCC.
Daniel Mitov and Goran Svilanović discussed the state and future development of regional cooperation and the key priorities in the work of the Regional Cooperation Council. In this regard, they exchanged views on the implementation of the South East Europe 2020 Strategy, adopted in November 2013.
Minister Mitov emphasized that the implementation of the RCC Strategy and Work Programme for 2014-2016 is a prerequisite for achieving the priority objectives - economic growth, new jobs, the rule of law, fighting corruption, cooperation in the fields of education and science.
At the meeting, the Foreign Minister and the Secretary General of the RCC also discussed the priorities of the forthcoming Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office of the South-East European Cooperation Process (1 July 2015 – 30 June 2016). Our Chairmanship will focus on stabilization and economic development, transport, energy and infrastructure, media freedom and freedom of expression, migration and coping with the refugee flow, Daniel Mitov pointed out.
