28 August 2014 News

Minister Daniel Mitov met today with UNHCR representative in Bulgaria Roland François-Weil.The two discussed the condition and development of the  national asylum and protection system.

This is a challenge for Bulgaria, which we have not faced yet and we have no particular experience in the field. Despite this, I think that the efforts of our country together with the assistance from partner states, gave positive results, said Minister Mitov.

We value the good cooperation with the Bulgarian institutions at all levels, Roland Weil said. According to him, after the initial difficulties last yearwith the sharp increase inrefugee flows, Bulgaria currently has sufficient capacity for temporary accommodation.

Minister Daniel Mitov and Roland François-Weil discussed also the need to create an integration mechanism. We know how important it is and we are ready to work for setting specific steps in this direction, which can be taken by the next government.  The adopted National Strategy for the Integration of Beneficiaries of International Protection in Bulgaria must be implemented, Minister Mitov said.

Bulgariais EU’s external border and we are subject to severe migratory pressure, the Foreign Minister said. He voiced concern that while there is instability in the Middle East caused by Iraq crisis and the ongoing Syrian conflict,  this trend will continue. The international community must act decisively and efficiently, so that these people can return to their homes, Minister Mitov said.
