Minister Mitov met with Ambassador Gökçe

Minister Daniel Mitov held a working meeting today with the Turkish Ambassador to Sofia Süleyman Gökçe. Among the topics of discussion were the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Turkey and issues on the international agenda.

Bulgaria and Turkey are good neighbors and partners within NATO. In recent years, our relations are developing in a positive direction and we hope that this trend will continue, said Minister Mitov.  Ambassador Gökçe noted that the regular dialogue at high and the highest political level, and the joint meetings of the two governments serve as an affirmation of the excellent cooperation.

The Foreign Minister and the Turkish Ambassador discussed the prospects for expansion of the relations in a number of areas of mutual interest, including transport, trade, investment, tourism and energy. The construction of gas interconnection Bulgaria - Turkey is an important element of the government's efforts to diversify its gas supplies, said Daniel Mitov.

The forthcoming NATO Summit in Wales and the situation in the Middle East were also discussed by Minister Mitov and Ambassador Gökçe. The possible migration pressure as a result of the crisis in Iraq and the region is a topic that concerns both Bulgaria and Turkey and only through joint and coordinated actions we can overcome this challenge, the Foreign Minister said.
