65 years since the establishment of the Council of Europe

The 65th anniversary of the Council of Europe - Europe's largest political intergovernmental organization uniting currently 47 member states, was marked in Strasbourg. During the event, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Council of Europe, Krasimira Beshkova, was invited to participate in a roundtable discussion together with the Permanent Representative of the host country France and EU’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe.

Ambassador Beshkova emphasized on the particular importance of the date 7 May to Bulgaria because on that day 22 years ago Bulgaria was accepted as a full member of the Council of Europe. The Bulgarian Permanent Representative pointed out that with Bulgaria's accession to the Organization, our country has became part of the family of European democracies and has received recognition for completing the necessary legislative and institutional reforms in the transition to a democratic political system and market economy. Together with the other two permanent representatives, she expressed satisfaction that for the last 65 years the Organization has established itself as an influential and prestigious international institution for pan-European policy dialogue and cooperation.

Ambassador Beshkova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s attachment to the fundamental values ​​of the Council of Europe - democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and the commitmentof our country to continue contributingto the achievement of the goals of the Organization.
