Meeting of the foreign ministers of Bulgaria and Greece
08 May 2014 NewsMinister Kristian Vigenin met in Thessaloniki with his Greek counterpart Evangelos Venizelos. During the conversation they confirmed the high level of bilateral relations and expressed willingness to find solutions to technical issues faced by both sides.
Minister Vigenin raised the issue of social security problems of Bulgarian citizens who have acquired work experience in Greece. Evangelos Venizelos pledged to organize a bilateral joint working group to resolve the technical issues.
The foreign ministers also discussed the opportunities for diversification and the prospects for energy cooperation. As important projects they identified the Trans Adriatic pipeline, Bulgaria-Greece interconnection, LNG-terminal projects in northern Greece. They agreed also on the importance of the project for South-North gas corridor.
Kristian Vigenin and Evangelos Venizelos shared the view that the newly opened Makaza-Nymfaia border crossing plays a positive role in the development of the region and the relations between people. They discussed the possibility of opening the crossing for heavy traffic soon.
Among the topics of conversation were also topical issues on the international and European agenda.The foreign ministers pointed out that Bulgaria and Greece - as partners and allies in the EU and NATO - share similar positions on a number of topics.
