28 April 2014 NewsMinister Kristian Vigenin participated in the annual gala organized by the National Museum of Women in Arts in Washington, DC which was held on 25 April. The museum was founded in 1987 by private collectors and its mission is to represent and promote the achievements of women in arts of all times and nationalities. Honorary Chairman of the event was Ambassador Elena Poptodorova.
The focus of the evening was the presentation of Bulgaria. The organizers noted that this year marks 111 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the U.S., and given the long-standing partnership between the two countries, especially in the fields of education and arts, the focus is on our country.
Minister Vigenin greeted the organizers and the guests, emphasizing that this is the only museum in the world dedicated to the achievements of women in arts. He noted the important role of women artists in the cultural life of Bulgaria and donated to the museum the painting "Alter ego" of the Bulgarian artist Milena Jojic . The painting will become part of the museum’s exposition.
During the event, an auction of artworks was conducted and the funds raised will be used to maintain the exposure and the educational programs of the museum.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, the government, citizens engaged in social and charitable activities and others.
