02 April 2014 News

The Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the UN, Ambassador Stefan Tafrov, and the representatives of 16 other EU member states have jointly deposited the instruments of ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty. The official ceremony was held on 2 April 2014 in New York.

With the ratification Bulgaria contributes to the rapid entry into force of the Treaty, whose main purpose is the development and implementation of high global standards of the international trade in arms. Our country, along with the rest of the EU members, is an active participant in the process that led to the adoption of the Arms Trade Treaty.

The deposit of the instruments of ratification coincides with the first anniversary of the adoption of the Treaty by the UN General Assembly on 2 April 2013.
