Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin participated in the second joint meeting of the governments of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania, which took place today in Ruse. During the meeting Kristian Vigenin held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Titus Corlățean.

The two ministers signed a Protocol on cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania. The document establishes a mechanism for holding consultations between the two institutions on issues on the bilateral agenda, European and regional cooperation and international topics.

The framework document includes the exchange of diplomatic personnel between the two countries in the context of the preparation for assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which Bulgaria and Romania will hold for the first time.

The two foreign ministers discussed the current issues on the European agenda, regional issues and the situation in Ukraine. Minister Vigenin informed his counterpart on his recent visit to Kiev and Odessa, in connection with the forthcoming visit of Titus Corlățean in Ukraine.

During the meeting they discussed the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister and his Romanian counterpart agreed that the efforts at European level should continue until a favorable decision on the entry of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen in full compliance with the European principles and rules is reached.
