Statement of Minister Kristian Vigenin on the decision of the EP to liberalise the visa regime for Moldovan citizens

Bulgaria welcomes the decision of the European Parliament to transfer Moldova to the positive visa list of Regulation 539/2001 for short-term visa-free travel to the EU.
Bulgaria is one of the initiators in support of Moldova's efforts to liberalize the visa regime and for closer integration with the European Union. The progress made in that direction clearly shows that the consistent actions of the Moldovan authorities in the implementation of the necessary reforms give the deserved results.
The possibility citizens of Moldova, including the Bulgarian community, holding biometric passports to travel to the EU without visa will create conditions to increase the tourist flow to our country and will promote the trade and business between the two countries. The liberalisation will facilitate the cultural and scientific exchange, as well as the contacts between the people of Bulgaria and Moldova.
