Sixth round of political consultations between Bulgaria and India

The sixth round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and India was held on January 16 in Delhi. From the Bulgarian side, the consultations were led by Deputy Minister Angel Velitchkov and from the Indian by Mr. Dinkar Khullar , Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. During the talks, the state and the prospects of the bilateral relations were discussed, as well as the development of the EU- India cooperation and regional issues.

Bulgaria and India have stable and friendly political relations which are affirmed by the cooperation in various fields of mutual interest. The solid legal and contractual basis between the two countries and the functioning institutional framework contribute to the effective development of the bilateral ties , said Deputy Minister Velitchkov. He pointed out that this year we mark 60years of the  establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations, and the anniversary can be celebrated with high and highest level visits.

During the political consultations, the two sides expressed desire to further enhance the trade and economic cooperation between Bulgaria and India, especially in the field of science and technology, information technology, agriculture, tourism, cinema. As promising areas for development, they identified culture, education , sports, people to people contacts . The two delegations exchanged views on international and regional issues, including the situation in the neighboring countries of India, the prospects of Afghanistan, the latest developments of the Iranian nuclear issue, the European integration of the Western Balkans, Ukraine and the Eastern Partnership, etc.

During his visit to Delhi, Deputy Minister Angel Velitchkov was welcomed by the Minister of State for External Affairs, Mrs Preneet Kaur. They reaffirmed the political will of both sides to further strengthen and deepen the bilateral cooperation in all areas.
