Kristian Vigenin: I'm glad that the European Endowment for Democracy works successfully and Bulgaria is part of it

01 November 2013 News

I'm very glad that the European Endowment for Democracy works successfully and that Bulgaria is part of its establishment and financing, Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin said during his conversation with the Executive Director of the Fund Jerzy Pomianowski. The Fund enables the Bulgarian experts, public institutions and non-governmental organizations to participate in the processes of democratization in the EU's neighboring countries, which is of a direct interest for the stability and security of the region and Bulgaria, he said. Recently an open call for proposals was announced with a focus on the countries covered by the EU's neighborhood policy. In the process of preparing and implementing projects the embassies in partner countries of the Fund play an important role, he said.

Jerzy Pomianowski thanked Bulgaria for the consistent support, including material,  for the European Endowment for Democracy. He introduced in detail the recent initiatives of the EED to minister Vigenin.

Among the topics of conversation were also the challenges to the Eastern Partnership and the importance of continuity in the relations with the eastern neighbors. In this connection, the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in November in Vilnius was also discussed.
