Kristian Vigenin held talks with the President and the Chairman of the Hellenic Parliament

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin held talks with the President of Greece Karolos Papoulias and with the Chairman of the Parliament Evangelos Meimarakis during his working visit to Athens, which ended late last night.

During the meeting with President Papoulias, the mutual desire to strengthen and deepen the traditionally good friendship and neighborly relations between the two countries was once again confirmed. An emphasis was put on the development of energy cooperation and the further expansion of the Bulgarian - Greek trade and economic relations.

During their conversation, Minister Kristian Vigenin and the Chairman of the Parliament Evangelos Meimarakis focused on the role of the parliaments in the implementation of reforms and raised the issue of establishment of a permanent secretariat of the SEECP parliamentary dimension to be based in Sofia.

Minister Vigenin was hosted at the highest state and government level during his working visit to Greece.  Among the topics discussed were issues of mutual interest in the field of bilateral relations, cross-border cooperation, issues on the European agenda, as well as other international topics. Minister Vigenin expressed support for the key priorities of the upcoming EU Presidency of Greece in the first six months of 2014. Major guidelines for enhancing the regional cooperation were also outlined. Satisfaction with the active dialogue between representatives of the municipal and administrative authorities on both sides of the border was expressed during the meetings.
