New Consuls General and Honorary

The government appointed today two career diplomats for Consuls General of Bulgaria to New York and Bitola. The position in the US is granted to Milen Lyutskanov, and in the Republic of Macedonia - to Teodor Roussinov.

Milen Lyutskanov was chargé d'affaires and Deputy Head of the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to NATO, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Special National Coordinator for the Regional Cooperation Council and Special Coordinator for International Cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Teodor Roussinov is Head of the “Southeast Europe” Department of the “European countries” Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has extensive professional experience, relevant to the policy and the development of Bulgaria's relations with the countries of Southeast Europe, including the Republic of Macedonia.

The government has also decided to open a Consulate of Bulgaria in Cameroon headed by an honorary (non-staff appointment) consular officer. Seat of the Consulate is the city of Yaoundé and its consular district includes the territory of the country. Vanya Assenova was appointed for Honorary Consul of Bulgaria to Cameroon. She is the regional director of SOS Children's Villages International in Yaoundé and she has a diplomatic status with the rank of chief of the diplomatic mission, given by the local authorities.

The Cabinet today gave its consent to Kazakhstan to open Honorary Consulate in Bulgaria which will be based in Blagoevgrad. Its jurisdiction is encompassing the areas of Sofia, Kyustendil, Pernik, Blagoevgrad, Vratsa, Montana, Vidin, Lovech and Pleven. For Honorary Consul Kazakhstan has nominated the Bulgarian citizen Mitko Solakov.

The opening of Honorary Consulates is essential for the development and further strengthening of the bilateral relations of Bulgaria with Cameroon and Kazakhstan. It increases the opportunities for the development of economic and cultural relations between the countries, opening of new markets for Bulgarian exports and attracting foreign investments to our country.
