Prof. Kiril Topalov presented his credentials

17 September 2013 News

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to the Holy See, Prof. Kiril Topalov, presented his credentials to Pope Francis on September 14, 2013. Ambassador Topalov held long conversations, exceeding the protocol-specified time, with the Pope and with the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Bertone. During the discussions, they referred to a number of important moments of the centuries-long historical, religious, political and cultural relations of the Bulgarian state and society with the Holy See, with the Roman Empire and Italy.

Particular attention was paid to the current state of those relations, especially to the issues related to the state visit of the Bulgarian delegation in Rome on the occasion of May 24 and the positive developments with Church of St. Vincent and Anastasius and di Trevi square. The Bulgarian Ambassador was assured by Pope Francis and the Vatican Secretary of State that the Holy See will continue to preserve and support by all means the excellent development of the traditions. The Holy See welcomed the Bulgarian solution of the issue related to the appointment of an Ambassador to the Holy See.
