Bulgarian-American relations have left their mark both in history and in the present

“110 years are at the same time long and short period of time for the development of the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the U.S. They went through diverse stages, but have always been active, leaving a strong mark both in history and in the present," said Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin at today's ceremony of the validationof a postage stamp philatelic edition, dedicated to the110th anniversary of Bulgaria- U.S. diplomatic relations.
The ceremony, held at the Museum of Communications, was attended by the Minister of Transport,Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov and the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Bulgaria H.E. Marcie Ries.
"The postage stamp has a certain symbolic meaning because in today's world of advanced technologies, the stamp represents a human contact. Such are the relations between Bulgaria and the U.S.," Minister Vigenin said. He stressed that especially in recent decades the bilateral relations have expanded to a level of a comprehensive and valuable strategic partnership. “I am sure that we will make a significant contribution towards strengthening not only the traditional areas of cooperation such as security and economics, but also the cultural cooperation between our two countries,” the Foreign Minister said.
"The stamp is associated with the communication between people and as such it is a perfect way to celebrate the 110th anniversary of our diplomatic relations," the U.S. Ambassador said. According to Marcie Ries, the rich history of the bilateral relations as well as the shared democratic values provide an excellent opportunity for further development of the cooperation during the important and challenging times of today.
"Philately is an art of expressing values - both on the political field and in everyday life," Transport Minister Danail Papazov said. He recalled that a special stamp was issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bulgarian- American diplomatic relations.
The edition "110 years of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the United States” consists of a postage stamp in circulation of 11,000 copies and an illustrated cover , printed in 1030 copies. The artwork is done by Theodor Liho.
