Over 35,000 Bulgarian citizens have declared their desire to vote outside the country

29 September 2026 News

The deadline for submitting electronic applications expires at 24:00 Bulgarian time today

As of 12:00 on 29 September 2026, a total of 35,131 Bulgarian citizens have submitted applications for voting at polling stations outside the country. The data are published on the official website of the Central Election Commission.

Until 24:00 Bulgarian time today, our fellow countrymen abroad can submit an electronic application for voting through the online platform of the CEC.

Applications have been submitted for 72 countries, some of which are not included in Decision No. 93-PVR of 3 September 2026. These include Angola – 1 application, Brazil – 18, Vietnam – 2, Indonesia – 4, Kazakhstan – 2, Cambodia – 1, Laos – 1, Latvia – 11, Lithuania – 4, Mexico – 4, Namibia – 1, and Peru – 1.

So far, 68 Bulgarian citizens have declared their willingness to vote in New Zealand, 60 in Singapore and 53 in Iceland. The required number of applications was collected to set up polling stations in Auckland, Singapore and Reykjavik.

Most applications were submitted in Türkiye – 12,210, followed by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland – 5,203, the Federal Republic of Germany – 3,519, the US – 2,507, Spain – 1,919, and the Netherlands – 1,036.

The latest amendments to the Electoral Code require voters who are not included in the lists for voting outside the country to complete and sign a declaration – Appendix No. 29-PVR from the election papers – before the members of the sectional election commission on election day. This can lead to queues and delays in the voting process. The requirement does not apply to Bulgarian citizens who have previously submitted applications and are included in the relevant voter list.

In countries outside the European Union, the so-called "automatic sections" are not established. Polling stations outside the diplomatic and consular representations shall be established by a decision of the CEC in the presence of not less than 40 voters who have submitted an application under Art. 16, para. 1 of the Election Code and at the discretion of the heads of the respective representations.

In order to facilitate the exercise of their right to vote and the organization of the electoral process, Bulgarian citizens abroad can submit an electronic application by the expiration of the deadline tonight.
