Hristo Dikanski: Young Bulgarians Around the World Must Maintain and Strengthen Their Ties With Bulgaria

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hristo Dikanski attended an award ceremony honouring the winners of an essay competition for school and university students from Bulgarian communities around the world. The competition is organised by the Bulgarian National Radio under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad.
“Working with young Bulgarians abroad is a key priority for us at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because we believe that their ties with Bulgaria must be maintained and strengthened, regardless of where in the world they live,” Deputy Minister Dikanski said in his address to the participants and guests at the event.
He emphasised the importance of initiatives of this kind, which provide young people from Bulgarian communities abroad with an opportunity to share what Bulgaria means to them, to speak about their connection with their homeland and to show how they envisage its future and their place in it.
Hristo Dikanski congratulated the participants on having the courage to present their ideas in such a public forum and thanked them for the positive emotions and sense of pride he had experienced while reading their essays. “In what you have written, we see not only your close connection with Bulgaria, but also young people who are committed to the development of our country, who want to be part of its future – and that is the most important message of this competition,” he said.
The Deputy Minister noted that some young Bulgarians would choose to remain abroad, where they would carry on the work of the generations before them and serve as successful ambassadors for Bulgaria, while others would choose to return and contribute directly to the country’s development.
“Whichever path you choose, it will always lead you back to your homeland as long as you carry Bulgarian culture, spirit and language within you,” the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said in conclusion.
